My diet success story

To start things off I would like everyone to know that weight loss is possible. I’ve attempted to take control of my weight but have been unsuccessful in the past. However once I was able to get a grip on my diet and a regular work out I was able to take control of my body!

How It All Began

To start my story off, we need to go back to when I was in my twenties. I was never thin growing up (And was never tall) so I grew up never facing my weight. When I moved to Texas I was a size 14, and when my wedding came I was at a size 18. Not only did this bring a lot of stress onto me but I ended up eating more as a result of it. I would avoid anything that could remind me of my weight but as the wedding grew closer and I had to buy a wedding gown, I was forced to face the reality I had created for myself.

What Pushed Me to Change

You could say that the wedding is what pushed me to make a change in my life. When the wedding photos came in, I was embarrassed to show them to anybody. I ended up crying over the photos as I couldn’t bare what I had done to my body. After that I knew I had to do something. I could no longer sit around and pretend everything was alright. This was when I made the decision to do something about my weight.

The Lifestyle I Live Today

The very first thing I did was empty my fridge and pantry. I found anything that was junk food and threw it out. Somewhere around that time I have found a website called and that’s where I have started to understand how things are supposed to work. The garbage bag was full of junk food! After this was done I stopped eating out every night. Sure I was going to miss how easy it was to grab something to eat but I knew it would be worth it. Since the junk food was gone and I stopped going out to eat, I needed to start cooking healthy foods. I did research online looking for recipes that were healthy and hopefully tasted just as good. Now I will say this part took the most time as I wasn’t used to cooking for myself. I was so used to going out to eat or just eating junk food that I lost the concept of cooking a healthy meal at home. I needed to get that back. And I did.

Next came working out. I started out with using the treadmill I had in my house. The first time I used it I realised it had been sitting there for a long time. It had gathered a layer of dust! This didn’t stop me but drove me to work harder. I got on that treadmill every single day except for Sunday’s and ran for 30 minutes, I have followed Runner Connect’s advice on improving long-run experience. As time went on and I kept to this strategy I had created, I began to remove any other foods I possibly could and even tried a DVD for working out.

The Results

I originally started out weighing in at 185 pounds. A year later I was able to bring that down to 120 pounds, reaching my personal goal. I was blown away that I actually did it. I really was able to take control of my weight and reach my goal. With these fantastic results, not only did I have more energy to go about my life, but I was happier. I haven’t let down my healthy lifestyle ever since and don’t see myself ever doing so. The lifestyle I have created for myself is something I will always keep.


Nutritional part of a my diet

As it often happens with people, they start thinking about losing a bit more weight either starting from first day of the year, if they failed to do that – first day of some month, and sometimes first day of week. We’ve all been there.

In my case it’s a bit more complicated. And today I would like to write not about specific method I used (maybe in 1 week I will write a more detailed post on that), but rather food limitations that it usually suggests. Why I think it’s important? Because for most people there’s not much difference between one or another diet or supplement – the two things they care about are:

  1. how effective this method / diet / pill really is
  2. how their lifestyle will be changed during the diet

Of course, people are usually willing to change something, but let’s be honest to ourselves – usually not much. I mean, if you’re used to steaks and fries, and starting  tomorrow you will be limited to broccoli – that diet is not guaranteed to last long. Something like this:

Not only that (people are not motivated to continue this diet) – they will also dream about the day they’re done with it. And they eat that steak with fries. As a result – the entire diet was useless, the weight, even if a small portion of it was lost, returns very fast. Again, motivation goes down even lower – people don’t want to continue this experience ever again.

But is it really that bad ans has to be this way? Certainly not. I will tell you about my own experience. My approach to this was very steady limitation to may eating habits so that I don’t change something dramatically and complain about horrible food I’m now supposed to eat. No, I have seen clearly where I want to be in 12 months (just an example) from now – and transform slowly.

For example, I love red meat. But of course, it’s not the best food to lose weight, so I made a slow transition to poultry and later, fish. If it’s fresh cooked right, it can be enormously tasty. Sure thing, I like some BBQ on 4th of July, you should still mind some limits.
