[Obituary, The Pioneer, Bemidji, Wednesday, APR 22, 1992] "Loretta M. Berg,
59, of Gonvick died Monday, APR 20, 1992, at the Red Lake Public Health
Service Indian Hospital at Red Lake.
"Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Mission Church
in Redlake, with the Rev. Bill Merhkens officiating. A wake beings at 1 p.m.
Thursday at the Little Rock Community Center. Interment will be in the Red
Lake Catholic Cemetery, with arrangements by the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.
"Honorary pallbearers will be Loretta RedCloud, Mary Rose Skinaway, Cleonoa
Barrett, Gladys Barrett, Edith Jackson, Donna Fairbanks and Alvina Spencer.
Active pallbearers will be Harlow Berg, Gerald Jones, Duane G. Strong, Charles
Johns, Pete English Jr., Richard Barrett and Alfred Benais.
"Mrs. Berg was born OCT 18, 1932, at Red Lake to Simon and Margaret Stone.
She grew up at Red Lake and attended schools there as well as the Haskell
Institute in Lawrence, Kan. She married Sanderfer O. Berg Sr. MAR 7, 1957 in
Chicago. They lived there for a year and a half, then moved to Gonvick where
she had lived since. She was employed at Clearwater County Social Services
and the Red Lake Indian Mill. She was a member and the chaplain of the Ladies
Auxiliary of Red Lake VFW Post 6889.
"She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Lenetta (Dean) Jourdain,
Julie (Keith) Stately, Karla (Brian) Lajeunesse and Connie Berg, all of Red
Lake; two sons, David Berg of Gonvick and Alfred (Stacey) Berg of Bemidji; 13
grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Lussier and Anna Spears of Red Lake,
and Mary Stately of Redby; a brother, Joseph (Mary) Spears of Lebanon, Ore.,;
and a half brother, Joseph (Gertrude) Pierre of Red Lake.
"She was preceded in death by a son, Sanferder O. Berg Jr.; a daughter,
Bonnie ReNae Berg; her parents, a brother, Albert Spears; a sister, Mary Red
Eagle; and a half sister, Mary Rosebear." [Photo APR 22,
