were married in Washington and then returned to Minnesota. After his death
she went to Minneapolis and eventually married Wildung, H.R.." Hole in the
Day's descendants by this marriage went by the name of
Woodbury.

noted as one of two white men between Ft. Garry (Winnipeg) and St. Paul in
1845. He lived at Crow Wing opposite the mouth of the Crow Wing River and was
instrumental in opening the North Woods Trail, a part of the Red River ox cart
trail. Earlier McDonald was a liquor dealer. He received a license from St.
Croix county in 1842. He had started to take a homestead on the site of what
is now St. Paul, but moved away and settled in Crow Wing. In 1854 he built a
log house on the northeast shore of Detroit Lake in Becker County, stayed two
years trading, and then returned to Otter
Tail.

As a Chippewa of the Mississippi band, he signed the
agreement of 1889 at age 45. He is listed in the 1850 Minnesota Territorial
Census in Benton County, with his parents. He was age five, born in
Minnesota. John McDonald was a Civil War Soldier in Co. G., 9th Minn. Reg.,
mustered in AUG 19, 1862. John and Kah-nah-poonce were married by 1883 when
she was about 32 years old. They may have had children who died
young.
