She was raised by her uncle Kah-dah-wah-be-day. From information from
Pay-shah-quod-oquay, also called Anna Whitefisher Swan: "Wah-bo-jeeg had two
wives as it was the custom for a man in those days to have more than one wife
at a time. His wives were half sisters. Anna Swan's mother being the
youngest. When Anna Swan's mother was just a young girl she was given to
Wah-bo-jeeg for a wife by Gah-dah-wah-be-day, in the English language means
Broken Tooth. He reared Anna Swan's mother from a small girl until the time
she became Wah-bo-jeeg's wife. Gah-dah-wah-be-day was Anna Swan's mother
brother (sic). Wah-bo-jeeg's second wife had four girls, their names were
Go-nah-poonce, Baish-ah-quod-oquay or Anna Swan, Mrs. Frances Parker and
Go-na-yea-quay, Mrs. Jane Manypenny."
Mah-ko-day's children by Chief Wah-bo-jig were all born at Crow Wing,
Minnesota, before their removal to the White Earth Reservation.
