!OBIT: Bemidji Pioneer, 21 MAR 1993: Mary Allice Lokken Edwards, 90, of Bemidji
died Friday, March 19, 1993 at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholemew's Episcopal
Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Mike Horn officiating. Visitation will be 4-9
p.m. today at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
There will also be visitation from 9:15 a.m. Monday until the time of services
at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetary in Gemidji.
Pallbearers will be Eugene, David, Paul, and Jerry Koch, George Lokken and
Tom Villebrun.
Mrs. Edwards was born March 5, 1903, to Peter and Carrie Peterson in White
Earth. She attended school at White Earth and at Red Lake. She married Olaf
Lokken Dec. 17, 1917, in Redby. The couple lived in Redby until he died in
1956. She housed boarders at her home while raising her family, she also
operated a confectionarystore, then a grocery store and a show hall. In the
late 1950's she moved to Minneapolis and worked as a waitress during the winter
while working for the Swedmarks at their lodge on Lake Andrusia in the summer.
After doing this for several years she bougth a store at 11th and Irvine Ave.
in Bemidji and operated it until she sold it in 1970. She married Walter
Edwards Oct. 21, 1972 in Bemidji.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and was active with
the church guild, holding rummage sales and selling Christmas wreaths. She was
also active with several senior organizations in Bemidji, including Northland
Apartments and the Bemidji Senior Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Alma Koch of Coon Rapids; a son, Alvin
(Jean) Lokken of Redby, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two
sisters, Esther Meurer of Orlando, Fla. and Kathryn Crooks of Marksville, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olaf, one son, George,
in 1949, one daughter, Thelma, in 1988; her second husband, three brothers and
one sister.
