[Obituary, The Pioneer, Bemidji, APR 21, 1992], "James Jackson Sr., 78, of
Cohasset died Sunday, APR 19, 1992, at Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids.
"Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Inger Community Center
in Inger, where visitation is scheduled after 4 p.m. today. Interment will
be in Inger Cemetery, with arrangements by the Carroll Funeral Home of Deer
River.
"Mr. Jackson was born Sept. 28, 1913, at Sawyer. He grew up at White Earth
and went to school in Wahpeton, N.D., then worked as a logger. He had spent
48 yars as an Indian spiritual leader throughout the United States and started
[sic] worked as a spiritual consultant for the state correctional facilities
in Minnesota in 1977. He was a member of the state Educational Task Force.
"He is survived by his wife, Ida; four daughters, Doris Belgard and Wanda
Jackson of Deer River and Elouise Brobowski and Bety Browbowski of Grand
Rapids; four sons, James Jr., Dale, LaVern and DeVarn, all of Cohasset; three
adopted daughters, Marcella Howard of Minneapolis, Linda Reese of Cass Lake
and Dolly Jackson of Cloquet; an adopted son, Ray Slick of Shawnee, Okla.; 24
grandchildren; six great-grand-children, and six great-great-grandchildren.
"He was preceded in death by seven daughters, Darlene, Donna, Tido, Myrna,
Mary Lou, Shirley and Maria Jackson, and a son
Melvin."
