of Shadingfield, obtained a license of free warren (a privilege which one has in
lands by Royal grant of hunting and taking wild beasts & birds of warren to the
exclusion of any other person not entering by permission) in Sotterley with
liberty of holding a market & a fair annually. A younger son of his took the
name of the manor as a
surname.
