!NAME: "Yellow Hair" [VRF #2]

!GENEALOGY_COMPILED_BY_VIRGINIA_ROGERS: Flat Mouth Genealogy, #2]
In Chippewa yellow is O-zah, O-zow, Wah-zah or Wah-so, the same as bright.
Hair is a-cua or variations thereof. In Tales of Four Lakes Wa-son-aun-equa
aka Yellow Hair "father of Flat Mouth. According to his illustrious son,
Yellow Hair acieved his power through his knowledge of medicines and poisons.
He hunted the area around Long Prairie, where he lost three children in an
attack by the Sioux. He gained revenge by killing and wounding several Dakotas
and scalping alive a little girl offered to him as a replacement for his own
lost children."
There was a Yellow Head, born around 1770, killed by the Sioux around
1800, a noted war Chief in the Chippeway River district.
Yellow Head or Yellow Hair, Tete Jaune in French, was mentioned by
traders between 1790 and 1835.
More on Yellow Head may be found in "Minnesota's Chief Flatmouth of Leech
Lake" by Duane R. Lund,
Ph.D.
